Developmental Services Committee Seeks Representatives

The Chatham-Kent Developmental Services Planning Committee, a group consisting of local service providers, self-advocates, families and community members, is looking to broaden its representation. The group is seeking an adult who receives support and a parent or family member representative to join to the group.

“Over many years agencies in Chatham-Kent that provide support to individuals with an intellectual disability have regularly met to act as a service coordination network, to review and comment on government initiatives and to advocate for improved levels of service and outcomes for individuals and families,” said David Katzman, Committee Chair and Executive Director at Community Living Wallaceburg. “Self-advocates and families add significant value to the committee and their insights are vital to carrying out the group’s mandate.”

The Committee meets once a month in Chatham on the third Wednesday, and meetings typically run between 10:30 a.m. and noon. The term of office is for two years. The Terms of Reference for the Committee can be found at www.getintocommunityliving.com. An orientation to the work of the Committee will be provided.

Any person who meets the basic criteria of being an adult in receipt of support, a parent, family member or guardian of an adult with an intellectual disability, and wishes to learn more about the opportunity is encouraged to write a brief letter highlighting their background and desire to support the committee’s efforts. All correspondence should be addressed to CKDSPC, c/o 1100 Dufferin Avenue, Wallaceburg, ON N8A 2W1.
