Door to Door Transportation

Safe, affordable, accessible transportation

Our Transportation Services aim to connect people to their community by providing safe, affordable, accessible door-to-door transportation options. Destinations may include medical and therapeutic appointments, social activities and other destinations that support the activities of daily living such as grocery shopping.

Please note: Our drivers are not trained caregivers and are unable to lift passengers or enter residences. If a passenger requires assistance due to health or safety concerns, a family member or caregiver over age 18 must accompany them, free of charge. For more complex transportation needs, our team will help connect you with one of our community partners.

Free Vaccination Appointment Drives

Drives to vaccination appointments are available anywhere in C-K at no cost through our transportation program.

To be eligible, a person must:

  • Have a vaccine appointment booked for the date of transportation;
  • Be a senior or a person with a disability (any age) including mobility, vision, or hearing impairment; and
  • Have limited or no access to safe and accessible transportation or face barriers to getting to/from a COVID-19 vaccine appointment.
  • In addition to the eligible individual, a caregiver/support person may accompany a person to and from the vaccine appointment.
  • Guide dogs and Service Animals will also be allowed on transport vehicles.

Grocery Runs

Seniors and persons with disabilities are driven in an accessible vehicle to and from a local grocery store to shop during dedicated Senior/Vulnerable Persons hours. One area of C-K is served each day and passengers must phone at least 3 business days in advance to book a seat on the vehicle. The runs are provided on specific weekdays, based on store hours. The cost is $10/roundtrip.

CareLink Health Transit

Please note: Medical drives are prioritized and there are limitations regarding the number of passengers per drive. Our disinfecting, PPE, and screening protocols remain in place.

CareLink is a non-urgent medical transportation service, operated in Chatham-Kent by CHAP, to ensure people are able to access health services in their community. CareLink vehicles are fully accessible. Each can accommodate up to 5 passengers at a time, including 2 passengers using wheelchairs. Destinations range from local to out-of-town locations and fares vary based on destination. Passengers can book a maximum of three (3) stops per trip, within three (3) hours. Lengthier drives may be provided for an additional cost.

Eligible passengers are:

  • older adults age 60+ travelling for a medical appointment or social engagement;
  • adults with disabilities 18+ travelling for a medical appointment;
  • ambulatory and/or able to operate their mobility devices/transfer with minimal assistance.

Our drivers are not trained to provide personal or medical supports. If a passenger requires assistance due to medical, physical or cognitive limitations, a family member or caregiver over age 18 must accompany them, free of charge.

To book a drive, please phone the Transportation Call Centre at 519.354.6221 ext. 242 and leave a voicemail with the details of the drive. A Transportation Coordinator will return your call during hours of operation, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A minimum of three business days’ notice is requested when booking drives; however, urgent drives may be accommodated as availability allows.
